Inhabiting the world of the Shims is like wandering through a labyrinth of emotional disconnection; a family of five, bound not by affection but by the inescapable chains of blood. The matriarch, MOON Hee-kyung, is a woman of frugal tendencies and a stubbornness that could rival a mule, driving her husband, CHUN Ho-jin, into the depths of despair. Their son, Yong-tae (YOO Ah-in), is lost in his own fantastical belief of regal reincarnation while their daughter, Yong-sun (HWANG Bo-ra), finds the very concept of existence a cryptic puzzle. Completing this eccentric ensemble is the unemployed comic book writer, aunt Mee-kyung (KIM Hye-soo). Under one roof, they coexist in a symphony of awkward interactions and uncomfortable silences, continuously questioning their shared destiny. Why, they ask themselves repeatedly, must they endure this familial circus devoid of love and understanding?
