Plot

In the heart of the arid desert, perched atop a solitary column, the deeply pious Simón embarks on an austere journey of self-sacrifice. Believing himself to be a sinner, he opts for the life of a hermit, shunning worldly pleasures to seek divine proximity. His sanctuary in the sky becomes a beacon of faith for peasants and travellers, drawing them like moths to a flame. They see in Simón a saint with powers to perform miracles, hanging onto his every word as if a divine decree. However, in this desolate yet spiritually charged landscape, a sinister presence lurks. The Devil, envious of Simón's heavenly aspirations, seeks to bring him back down to the material world. He weaves a web of temptations, aiming to seduce Simón with the very pleasures he has forsaken. "Simon of the Desert" is a vivid portrayal of one man's struggle between spiritual transcendence and the allure of earthly desires. It is an atmospheric tableau of faith, temptation, and the human spirit's relentless pursuit of the divine.
