In the fast-paced world of high-stakes finance, "Doc" Fletcher (Sir Michael Caine), a mastermind of monetary maneuvers, is dispatched by underworld kingpin Joe Fiore (Martin Balsam) to secure a Swiss bank, a strategic move aimed at effortlessly laundering their ill-gotten gains. Upon his arrival, Fletcher is met with a stark reality - the bank, procured by his confederate Prince di Siracusa (Louis Jourdan), is nothing more than a dilapidated office space perched over a nondescript eatery.
In a swift shift of gears, the Prince conjures up a new plan, luring Fletcher into the labyrinth of a silver mine investment, owned by the enigmatic duo Shireen and Agha Firdausi (Stéphane Audran and David Warner). This cunning move resolves one predicament, but inadvertently thrusts Fletcher into the spotlight of the silver industry's most formidable power players.
With his resources at stake and his reputation in the balance, Fletcher must summon all his acumen and cunning to navigate this precarious situation. Amid the high-risk game of financial chess, he also finds himself entangled in a romantic liaison with a disgruntled banker's wife (Cybill Shepherd).
