Plot

In the throes of a brutal civil war, the once harmonious strains of violin music have been replaced by the dissonant echo of violence for Jan and Eva Rosenberg. Former musicians turned reluctant farmers, they seek solace on an isolated rural island, far from the battlefield's cacophony. Their apolitical existence is a simple symphony of modest luxuries – the occasional fish from a neighbor, the rare indulgence in wine. Yet, their peaceful duet is marred by discordant notes; Jan, a sensitive soul, finds himself unsettled by the distant war, while Eva yearns for the sweet melody of motherhood – a score Jan is hesitant to play. Suddenly, the war they sought to avoid invades their quiet sanctuary. Rebels attack, familiar faces perish, and the couple find themselves ensnared in a dangerous dance they never wished to partake in. Accused of collaboration, they're subjected to the terrifying whims of a local colonel who imposes his presence at their farmhouse, his motivations as unclear as the war itself. As violence crescendos, Jan's character takes a dark turn. His once gentle demeanor morphs into a terrifying rage as they navigate the chaos of the returning rebels. Fleeing becomes their only option. But can they truly escape the haunting refrain of war? Or are they doomed to be forever trapped in its terrifying symphony? Their story is a nuanced exploration of love, sacrifice, and survival amidst the backdrop of a world in turmoil.
