Secret Liaison (2013)

When Samantha Simms, a dedicated Los Angeles attorney, hears of her sister Brenda's murder accusation back in their hometown of Seattle, she immediately abandons her bustling life to come to her aid. Brenda, who had recently severed ties with her now-deceased boyfriend Trevor Smith, is discovered to have been entangled in a web of deception and betrayal, all pointing towards a gruesome murder. The sisters' strained relationship, borne out of Samantha's pursuit of a prosperous career and Brenda's resentment for being left behind to care for their late, ailing mother, only adds to the complexity. Samantha is quickly submerged in a sea of incriminating evidence against Brenda, including her inexplicable lavish lifestyle that exceeds her modest income as an events planner. Samantha senses that Brenda is withholding a critical piece of the puzzle, her fear clearly transcending the threat of a murder conviction. Assisting Samantha in this intricate case is her former beau, SPD Detective Brad Mortensen, whose lingering affections for her are palpable. Together, they navigate the murky waters of Trevor's past, which reveal questionable professional and personal associations with Senator Mark Carey, a man caught in the throes of a reelection campaign, orchestrated by his wife Alice Walker. Trevor's involvement with the Beaumont, a risqué "gentlemen's" club, and a menacing figure who persistently crosses their path, hunting for something critical to the case, further complicate matters. As Samantha and Brad inch closer to unearthing the truth, they must decipher Brenda's secret and the thug's motive. But in doing so, they unknowingly place themselves at the mercy of a murderer who will stop at nothing to protect their secret.
