Saved! (2004)

In the quiet suburb of Baltimore, Mary, a devout senior at American Eagle Christian High School, navigates her life with a blend of innocence and fervor. Raised as a born-again Christian, she finds solace and identity in her band, the Christian Jewels, alongside her closest friends - the seemingly flawless Hilary Faye and Vietnamese Veronica, saved from her past by a compassionate Christian couple. Completing their circle is the outsider Tia, who keenly wishes to belong, and Hilary Faye's wheelchair-bound brother, Roland, an unwelcome tag along tied to the group by familial obligation. The tranquillity of Mary's life is disrupted when her boyfriend, Dean, confesses his homosexuality. Driven by a divine vision, Mary believes she can rescue Dean from his 'sin' by surrendering her virginity to him. Her noble intentions, however, lead to unforeseen consequences - Dean is sent to a 'degayification' center, and Mary finds herself pregnant. To her dismay, her secret remains hers alone, hidden from her mother, Lillian, and her friends. Meanwhile, Hilary Faye embraces a self-proclaimed mission to save Cassandra, a rebellious Jewish girl expelled from her previous school and a newcomer to their Christian environment. In her time of need, Mary gravitates toward the school's 'misfits' - Cassandra and Roland, as well as Patrick, the free-spirited skater and son of the school's principal, Pastor Skip. As her social standing falters, Mary finds herself shunned by Hilary Faye and her clique. Beneath the unraveling chaos, secret relationships and hidden sins emerge, testing Mary's faith and challenging the notion of the perfect Christian life. In the midst of this turmoil, Mary must navigate her pregnancy, her burgeoning attraction to Patrick, and her shattered worldview.
