Plot

Sara Dimarco, a spirited second-grade teacher from New Jersey belonging to a humble family, finds her world turned upside down when her British boyfriend Danny, a dedicated non-fiction writer, proposes to her after a year of dating. Known for his odd aversion to an online persona, Danny's secrecy had always sparked questions for Sara and her best friend Caitlin. However, the surprise proposal, having already won the hearts and blessings of her doting parents Marie and Bert, reveals an even bigger shock - Danny isn't just Danny, but Daniel Christopher Seamus Horatio Hughes, the crown prince of St. Ives, a quaint monarchy nestled off the British coast. As the news of their engagement begins to settle, Daniel must convince his royal parents, King Edmond and Queen Patricia, to approve of the union. Travelling to St. Ives with Daniel, Sara finds herself navigating a labyrinth of royal etiquette and traditions, often feeling more at home with the palace staff than with her prospective in-laws. Her commoner background becomes a silent wedge between her and the King and Queen, their hesitant disapproval hanging heavily in the air. Amid the tension, Princess Fiona, Daniel's sister, appears to be the only royalty supporting Sara and Daniel's love story. Unbeknownst to them, however, Fiona harbours her own hidden motives. As the plot unfolds, the question lingers - will Sara and Daniel's love triumph over the royal obstacles in their path, allowing them to ascend as the future King and Queen of St. Ives?
