Plot

In the early 20th century, Louise Randall emerges as an audacious woman, determined to defy societal norms and leave her mark in a man's world. An eternal optimist, Louise carries her father's "glass is half full" philosophy throughout her journey, hoping to inspire the same spirit in her children. Her path takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with the charismatic Rodney Crane at business college. Despite their conflicting ideologies about a woman's place in society, a whirlwind romance ensues leading to marriage and the birth of four children. However, the stark personality differences between Louise and Rodney, along with their diverging views, eventually result in a painful divorce. Amidst the tumultuous backdrop of World War I, the Great Depression, and then World War II, Louise continues to persevere, refusing to let her spirit be dampened. In her pursuit of love and happiness, she encounters Harold Pierson, a man as unconventional as she. Seen as unreliable and aimless by many, Harold resonates with Louise's indomitable spirit and optimistic worldview. Together, they embark on a series of business ventures. Success is sporadic, failure is frequent, but their resolve never wavers. "Roughly Speaking" is a captivating tale of a woman's journey through a world dominated by men, her relentless pursuit of success and happiness, and her unwavering belief in the power of optimism. Through ups and downs, wars and peace, failure and success, Louise Randall's spirit remains unbroken, her glass forever half full.
