Plot

In the vivid backdrop of the 1930s fishing industry, Dutch, a passionate and fiery tuna fisherman, finds himself unexpectedly thrust into a leadership role within his labor union. His charisma is as captivating as the sea he navigates, but his hot-headed nature leads him to clash with fellow union members over his ambitious ideas for improved working conditions. The failed strike that ensues leaves Dutch jobless and demoted, his pride as damaged as a ship after a storm. Meanwhile, Hattie, a hard-working cannery worker and Dutch's equally stubborn wife, grapples with her husband's escalating ambitions. The two share a deep, abiding love as enduring as the ocean, yet their pride creates waves that could capsize their marriage. Dutch's determination pushes him to abandon his modest job, leaving Hattie to shoulder their financial burdens. In a desperate attempt to buoy her husband during his low tide, Hattie resorts to theft, a decision that lands her behind bars. Meanwhile, Dutch, navigating the murky waters of unemployment, uncovers a sinister plot to dynamite his former ship. His efforts to thwart the catastrophe earn him a new job and a chance at redemption. As the story unfolds, Dutch pledges to anchor himself at the dock, awaiting Hattie's return, their love enduring despite the stormy seas of their lives. "Riffraff" is a heartfelt exploration of resilience, love, and pride set against the harsh realities of the working class, a tale as timeless as the tides.
