Plot

In the shadowy realm of a mythical 1930s London, the timeless tale of Shakespeare's Richard III unfolds. Sir Ian McKellen embodies the infamous Richard III, a man relentless in his quest for the throne, amidst the backdrop of a city gripped by the icy hand of a looming fascist government. Richard's ambition is as deep as the Thames and as dark as the cobblestone streets under the moonless night, driving him to plot against his elder brother, Edward, portrayed by Christopher Bowen. His ruthless strategy, as intricate as the labyrinthine streets of London, involves a deadly cocktail of manipulation, marriage, and murder. However, the road to the crown is fraught with obstacles. Not only must he outwit Edward, but he also faces opposition from his other brother Clarence, played by Sir Nigel Hawthorne, and Edward's two young sons. In this alternate version of Great Britain, civil war has flared, splitting the nation into two distinct factions. The House of Lancaster, champions of freedom, clashes against the oppressive House of York, led by the malevolent Richard III. This Shakespearean saga is not just a battle for the throne but a fight for the soul of a nation. As the tension escalates, Richard's dream of installing himself as a dictator monarch becomes an ominous possibility. This reinterpretation of the classic play thrusts viewers into an era of political intrigue and power struggles, where the price of ambition could be a kingdom, or one's downfall.
