In the icy grip of incarceration for a six-year stint on a grand theft auto rap, Rudy Duncan (Ben Affleck) finds his release merely days away. His cellmate, Nick (James Frain), serving a shorter sentence for a different crime, shares this countdown to freedom, fueled by a romantic correspondence with a mysterious woman named Ashley, whom he's yet to meet. Rudy, on the other hand, yearns for simpler pleasures - a reunion with his family and the warmth of a fresh cup of hot chocolate. But a violent prison riot abruptly ends Nick's dreams, leaving Rudy alone in his impending freedom. When he emerges from the prison walls, he's met with a twist of fate - Ashley, unaware of Nick's demise, eagerly awaits her pen pal. Seizing the moment, Rudy steps into Nick's shoes, hoping to experience the love promised in the letters. However, his new identity triggers a dangerous avalanche. Nick's past as a security expert for an Indian casino, a fact Rudy unwittingly inherits, attracts the attention of Ashley's gun-running brother Gabriel (Gary Sinise). With Christmas Eve approaching, Rudy becomes a pawn in Gabriel's audacious casino heist plot, a plan hinged on Nick's insider knowledge. Coerced into this perilous game, Rudy must play his part or risk losing everything. As the clock ticks down to the planned heist, Rudy's deception spirals out of control, ensnaring him in a web of plot twists, double crosses, and deadly surprises.
