Rancho Deluxe (1975)

In the rugged Montana wilderness, two offbeat drifters, Jack McKee (Jeff Bridges) and Cecil Colson (Sam Waterston), scrape together a livelihood by rustling cattle. Jack, a prodigal son of affluent parents, and Cecil, a blend of Caucasian and Native American heritage seeking to escape the shadow of his cantankerous cowboy father (Joe Spinell), weave their way through life with audacious cattle heists, their primary targets being the herd of wealthy ranch-owner John Brown (Clifton James). Enraged by the mysterious decimation of his cattle, Brown enlists the help of two ranch hands, Burt and Curt (Richard Bright and Harry Dean Stanton) to apprehend the elusive rustlers. But, as the ranch hands prove to be bumbling and unreliable, a desperate Brown entrusts the seasoned ex-rustler Henry Beige (Slim Pickens) with the task of hunting down the cattle thieves. Unbeknownst to Jack and Cecil, they are not only pursued but anticipated, always just one narrow escape ahead of their hunters, blissfully ignorant that even the wildest streak of luck has an expiry date. This lively tale of mischief, escapades, and the wild, wild west is an enthralling journey of two men against the odds, dancing on the tightrope of fortune.
