In the quaint confines of his small Texas hometown, J.D. steps back into a life he once abandoned, leaving his former love, Carrie, stranded at the altar four years prior. Now a formidable deputy sheriff, her bitterness towards him is palpable. A fresh opportunity beckons him to Bakersfield, and he departs, leaving behind a stern Carrie who warns him never to return.
