In the heart of bustling New York, the wealthy lawyer Mark Whitney and the affluent divorcée Marian Moreland are ensnared in an intricate web of romance. Unbeknownst to most, Marian is a simple factory girl from Erie, Pennsylvania, who has transformed into Marian Moreland, a name synonymous with opulence and refinement. Three years ago, Marian fled her impoverished life, drawn to the city by the promise of wealth. She was brutally honest with Mark about her aspirations to marry rich and escape her past. Back in Erie, Marian left behind Al Manning, a fellow factory worker hopelessly in love with her, whose marriage proposals she had repeatedly declined.
