Plot

In the heart of 18th century England, a daring alliance is born between two unlikely companions - Will Plunkett (Robert Carlyle), a shrewd highwayman with a hunger for a fresh start in America, and Captain James Macleane (Jonny Lee Miller), a disgraced soldier with an appetite for the upper echelons of society. Together, they embark on a daring venture, masking themselves as "The Gentlemen Highwaymen", using Plunkett's cunning criminal tactics and Macleane's aristocratic connections to relieve the rich of their valuables. However, their intriguing journey takes an unexpected twist when they cross paths with the enigmatic Lady Rebecca Gibson (Liv Tyler), the beautiful and cunning niece of Lord Chief Justice Gibson (Sir Michael Gambon). Macleane, ensnared by her charm, falls headlong into a dangerous love triangle, further complicated by the menacing Thief Taker General Chance (Ken Stott). Chance, who harbors his own affections for Rebecca, is relentlessly closing in on the elusive Gentlemen Highwaymen. As Plunkett and Macleane navigate this perilous game of love and larceny, they soon find themselves entangled in a web of deceit, passion, and danger. With each daring robbery, they edge closer to their dreams, but also to the relentless grasp of Chance. Plunkett, driven by his past encounters with Chance, finds himself grappling with his impulsiveness, which threatens to plunge them all into chaos. This is a riveting tale of adventure, romance, and rebellion, where the stakes are high, and the heart is the ultimate prize to be won.
