Plot

Amid the rugged beauty of northwest Canada's Elks River Forest Preserve, the thrill of a chase unfurls as notorious gangsters "Dapper Dan" Geary and Jo-Jo Regan find themselves relentlessly pursued by U.S. G-men. Here, they encounter another criminal, "Frenchie" Le Farge, who is fervently carving his name as Canada's top public enemy with his audacious antics. At the Elks River Barricks, the steadfast Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sergeant Jim McGregor rekindles his friendship with Doris McCloud, the daughter of his superior, Inspector McCloud. In an unexpected twist, Doris is invited to meet the renowned American author Stephen Norris. However, it is Geary, an uncanny doppelgänger of Norris, who awaits her in the secluded cabin, holding the real Norris captive while donning a false beard. Alongside Jo-Jo and Le Farge, an old jail-mate, Geary pulls off an audacious identity theft, moving his operation into the local Inn and hiring an unsuspecting Doris as his stenographer. As Geary's plot thickens, he learns of McGregor's assignment to escort a lumber company paymaster carrying a $5,000 payroll to the mill. Seeing an opportunity, Le Farge schemes to intercept the payroll, but McGregor's cunning outwits him. Underneath the glitz and glamour of a grand masque ball at the Inn, danger and intrigue lurk as Le Farge and his gang arrive disguised as Mexican bandits. When Doris unknowingly reads some of Geary's 'writing' to McGregor, suspicion arises, prompting McGregor to lift fingerprints from a glass held by Geary. As the pieces of the puzzle fall into place, the noose tightens around the gangsters in this thrilling tale of deception, suspense, and law enforcement.
