Plot

Phantom Halo (2014) is a tale of desperation and redemption, set against the gritty backdrop of Los Angeles. The story plunges into the lives of the Emerson family, mired in a constant struggle for survival. Warren Emerson, a once-renowned Shakespearean actor, is now a forgotten name, lost in a haze of alcohol and crippling gambling debts. His sons, Samuel and Beckett, are the family's only glimmers of hope, with their unique talents honed under the weight of their father's failures. Samuel, the family's Puck, enchants the city streets with his spellbinding recitations of Shakespearean monologues, a legacy of his father's rigorous teachings. His brother Beckett masterfully navigates through these same crowds, his nimble fingers lightening the pockets of the unsuspecting. Yet, their skills are not enough to keep the looming shadow of a loan shark at bay. As Warren's debt spirals out of control, the brothers are compelled to seek desperate measures. Beckett, inspired by the escapades of Samuel's cherished comic book hero, Phantom Halo, delves into the dangerous world of counterfeiting. His intentions are noble – to free his family from their financial shackles – but when his plan goes terribly awry, the Emersons are pushed to the brink. In the midst of their tumultuous existence, each family member clings to their own fragile solace – the beauty of Shakespeare's verse, the escapism of comic books, and the intoxicating allure of forbidden love. As their lives teeter on a knife-edge, the Emersons must decide whether to continue in their destructive patterns or to break free, risking everything for a chance at redemption. Phantom Halo is a compelling exploration of the lengths one family will go to save themselves from the quicksand of their past, finding hope in the most dire of circumstances.
