Plot

In the heart of New York City, the Hudson family, a picture of upper-middle-class sophistication, is on the brink of upheaval. At its helm is Diane Hudson, a conservative lawyer and mother, grappling with her husband Mark's sudden desire for divorce. Caught in this familial storm are their two children: Zoe, a late-teen poet and moral vegetarian yearning for a companion who shares her ideals, and Jake, a mid-teen introvert who communicates his world through the lens of his video camera. When the impending divorce threatens to unravel their lives, Diane, seeking respite and a retreat from the complexities of property division, takes a decision that surprises even herself. She ushers Zoe and Jake on an impromptu journey to the rustic farmhouse of her estranged mother, Grace, in the bohemian heartland of Woodstock. A notorious hippie, Grace, with her ideals of free love and her involvement in marijuana trade, has been absent from Diane's life for twenty years, making her an enigmatic figure to her own grandchildren. Intent on shielding her children from Grace's unconventional lifestyle, Diane is taken aback when they arrive in Woodstock to find that Grace is revered as a living legend rather than a mere eccentric. Encouraged by Grace's free-spirited wisdom, each Hudson finds their own path to happiness in this seemingly foreign terrain. Jake finds solace and companionship in Tara, a local coffee-shop waitress, while Zoe is drawn to Cole, an organic butcher, despite her initial reservations about his occupation. Diane finds herself unexpectedly charmed by Jude, a musician and furniture-crafter, while simultaneously unearthing secrets about Grace's past. What was initially planned as a brief escape morphs into a summer-long adventure of self-discovery, newfound romances, and hidden family secrets. In the midst of love, music, and misunderstandings, the Hudson family learns that happiness might just lie beyond the comfort of their urbane existence. Peace, Love & Misunderstanding is a celebration of the unexpected detours that lead us back to ourselves and the transformative power of family, love, and acceptance, even amidst chaos.
