Plot
In the heart of North Korea, Kim Sun-ho, a skilled orchestra horn player, leads a comfortable life in a society where class matters. Blissfully in love with his sweetheart Yon-hwa, he envisions their future together with marriage on the horizon. But their tranquil world is shattered when a letter arrives from Sun-ho's presumed deceased grandfather in Seoul. The ensuing correspondence sparks an unavoidable danger, prompting Sun-ho's family to make the perilous decision to defect to the South.
Torn apart from Yon-hwa, Sun-ho promises to return for her as soon as he establishes a secure life in Seoul. In the vibrant yet alien landscape of the South, he labors tirelessly to amass the funds necessary to help Yon-hwa flee the oppressive North. However, a disheartening revelation reaches him - Yon-hwa has found solace in the arms of another man, shattering his dreams and pushing him to the brink of despair.
Despite the blow, Sun-ho musters the courage to navigate life in the unfamiliar southern territory, grappling with his newfound reality and the heartbreak of a lost love. Will Sun-ho find his place in this strange new world or will the longings for his past life and lost love consume him?
