Plot

In Pawtucket, Rhode Island, circa 1974, a tapestry of dysfunction weaves around the life of teenage slacker, Tim Dunphy. Standing at the crossroads of adolescence and adulthood, Dunphy is a chronic stoner, navigating the rough waters of a fragmented lower-class family comprised of his gruff, bigoted widower father, his wheelchair-bound younger brother, Jackie, and their one-eyed, three-legged canine companion. With the shadowy underbelly of the mid-70s drug scene as his playground, Dunphy and his band of misfit friends find themselves too often on the wrong side of the law. His wayward journey reaches a crossroads when one transgression too many forces his father's hand. In a desperate bid to deter his son from a looming jail term, he dispatches Dunphy to Cornhill Academy, a prestigious prep school nestled in the heart of Cornwall, Connecticut. Thrust into the alien world of Cornhill for his senior year, Dunphy finds himself amidst new faces, new rules, and a new perspective on life. The ultimatum is as stark as it is simple: Graduate or face the consequences. Straddling the chasm between his past and potential future, Dunphy embarks on a transformative journey, one that promises to reshape his understanding of his own existence and the world around him. "Outside Providence" is a poignant exploration of life's harsh realities and the potential for redemption that lies within us all, set against a backdrop of societal upheaval and personal turbulence.
