Plot

In the harsh aftermath of 1946, in an undefined corner of Andalucía, southern Spain, a nameless boy – only known as "Kid" – seeks refuge from the brutal Capataz, a merciless landholder who rules the land and its impoverished, illiterate inhabitants with an iron fist. Seven years following the Spanish Civil War victory of General Franco, the region is steeped in poverty, fear, and violence. Armed with a mere compass, scarce food and water, the Kid journeys through the harsh wastelands, his eyes set on the distant city. He dreams of liberation, of freeing his family from the clutches of Capataz, the man who bought him from his parents. But his voyage is fraught with danger. He loses his bearings, his water, while evading a local farmer, and worst of all, Capataz and his vicious henchmen are hot on his trail, hungry for the gold pocket watch the Kid stole. In the midst of his perilous journey, the Kid crosses paths with a nomadic shepherd, known simply as "Pastor". Pastor roams the unforgiving wastelands with his flock of sheep and loyal dog, trading from town to town. Despite an initial mistrust, an uneasy alliance forms between the two. Pastor saves the Kid from near death in the scorching desert heat, and agrees to accompany him to the city. Their journey takes a turn for the worse when Capataz's men, El Triana and El Viejo, locate them. The Kid discovers that Pastor is a veteran of the Morocco War and the Spanish Civil War. Seeking his own redemption, Pastor defends the Kid, even as El Triana tortures him and decimates his flock. In a desperate bid for survival, the Kid shoots El Triana, inadvertently causing the death of El Viejo. As Pastor, gravely injured, fights to protect the Kid, the relentless Capataz tightens his grip, hell-bent on reclaiming what he believes is his, indifferent to the lives that may be lost. As the narrative unravels, the viewer is left on the edge of their seat, gripped by the desperate struggle for survival and freedom in this unforgiving landscape.
