In the tender bloom of his 19th year, Göran, an urban student, trades the bustling city for the tranquil embrace of the countryside. Having just graduated high school, he seeks solace and recreation on the farm of his uncle Anders. The pastoral life proves challenging for this city-bred youth, but his interest is piqued by more than just the farm chores. A glimmer of youthful romance blossoms as he crosses paths with the enchanting 17-year-old Kerstin, a neighbor girl who stirs his heart and anchors him firmly in rural life.
The village youth, including Göran and Kerstin, find themselves embroiled in a bitter feud with the stern local vicar, who views their pursuits as immoral ventures. When the vicar banishes them from the school, Uncle Anders provides a beacon of hope, gifting them an old barn as a venue for their gatherings. Despite her mother's fervent disapproval, Kerstin bravely joins the youth in their activities, her bond with Göran deepening with each shared experience.
Their love story unfolds slowly, reaching its apex on a moonlit summer night as they swim naked in a serene lake, their innocent love in stark contrast to the disapproval of their elders. As the leaves turn and autumn arrives, Kerstin's parents and the vicar fail to sever their bond, their love as vibrant as the changing foliage.
However, life takes a ruthless turn when a tragic accident claims Kerstin's life, leaving the village in shock and Göran in despair. The vicar, quick to point a blaming finger, accuses Göran of leading Kerstin astray. Marred by loss and accusations, Göran's summer of happiness fades into a poignant memory, a testament to a love that defied societal norms and flourished in the heart of adversity.
