Plot

In the frost-kissed landscape of Norway, Odd Horten, a stalwart train engineer of sixty-seven years, prepares to bid farewell to his dependable existence after forty years of devoted service. This unassuming man, whose taste of adventure rarely ventures beyond the thrill of flying from one Norwegian city to another, finds himself on the threshold of a life unscripted following his retirement. On the night of his retirement dinner, a series of peculiar encounters mark the beginning of his new journey. A young boy insists on Odd's comforting presence as he drifts into sleep. A misadventure causes him to miss his last-ever run, and he becomes an unexpected witness to an arrest. His path crosses with a frail old man, Trygve Sissener, leading to an unlikely friendship that becomes a beacon of companionship in his newfound solitude. In the wake of Trygve's sudden demise, Odd inherits not only his loyal dog, Molly, but also a pair of skis - a symbol of an adventure yet to be embraced. Despite never having donned skis before, Odd musters the courage to try, embodying the spirit of his unpredictable new phase. As Odd embarks on his journey, guided by Molly and accompanied by a sense of nostalgia, he revisits his mother's unfulfilled hopes for him. Stranded in the eerie silence of the roundhouse late at night, he contemplates the course of his life. From the quiet streets of Oslo to the heart of his past disappointments, and from the companionship of a dog to the thrill of a blindfolded drive, Odd Horten's retirement becomes an awakening of sorts. 'O'Horten' is a lyrical exploration of one man's journey from a life of routine to the embracing of the unknown, a testament to the adventures that lie in the twilight years, just waiting to be discovered.
