Anne Garrison, a head toy buyer for Sinclair's, a prominent chain of department stores in New York City, finds herself on a nostalgic journey back to her childhood in North Bay, Maine. Her father, Bill Garrison, is retiring from Garrison's Toys, a beloved local toy store known for its handcrafted wooden toys, a skill that Anne herself learned as a child. With the looming closure of the store, Anne returns home three weeks before Christmas, not just to assist her father but also to pack away the remnants of her childhood, a task laden with sentimentality and memories. The small town of North Bay is on the cusp of change. Not only is Garrison's Toys closing, but the future of the town's largest employer, Wentzell Lumber Mill, hangs in the balance. Its owner, Dorothy Wentzell, is contemplating retirement and the potential sale of the mill, a move that could fundamentally alter the town's future. Amidst this upheaval, Anne finds herself crossing paths with the mill's General Manager, Keith McClain, a widower who moved to North Bay for the sake of his young daughter, Jessie.
