In the blistering heat of 1978, Sheriff Reed ensnares the notorious Death Valley Drifter, a twisted serial killer haunting the barren desert. Justice is served, and the murderous fiend is sentenced to a deathly fate. Fast forward to the present day, as the seasoned Sheriff Reed, standing on the precipice of retirement, prepares to pass the torch to his son. Their routine is disrupted when, amidst a casual meal at an isolated desert diner, a car carrying three fugitive casino robbers rattles to a stop, desperate for fuel. Among the criminals is the former flame of Maya, the diner's waitress, and a gravely injured accomplice in the backseat. The tension peaks, leading to a deadly shootout between the lawmen and the thieves. Their getaway vehicle, caught in the crossfire, disintegrates in an explosion. Mysteriously, the body of the injured criminal vanishes into thin air. Now, the survivors find themselves trapped in the heart of the desert, their escape barred. To add to their nightmare, they are relentlessly pursued by a repugnant entity known as The Reeker. Unseen but ever-present, this malevolent force stalks the stranded souls, turning their desperate struggle for survival into a chilling game of cat and mouse.
