On the day of his 21st birthday, under the watchful eyes of his family and guests, Max makes his eighth desperate attempt to find solace in the elusive white light of oblivion. This act lands him back in an asylum, where he encounters Grace, a fellow prisoner of her own despair, clutching a teddy bear as if it were her own child. Love strikes Max like a lightning bolt and he sets out to woo Grace, culminating in a hopeful yet unconventional marriage. His newfound mission becomes a tireless quest to provide Grace with reasons to embrace life. Their daring escape from the asylum leads them on a journey through the healing power of nature, the warmth of family, and the wisdom of a variety of unconventional guides - a mystical shaman, a faith healer, and a self-help coach. Yet, Grace's torment proves a formidable adversary against all attempts at salvation. As Max's resolve wavers at the precipice of despair, the question lingers: will he succumb to defeat, forever banishing the hope of the tranquil white light? In a poignant turn of events, a visit to Grace's institutionalized mother offers a glimmer of insight. Will it be enough to illuminate their path, or will the darkness prove too overwhelming?
