Plot

Set amid the grit and glamour of mid-1930s Brooklyn, "Murder, Inc." is a chilling exploration of the underbelly of organized crime. The plot weaves around the life of Joey Collins, a charismatic nightclub singer, who finds himself tangled in a web of danger and deceit after his path crosses with the menacing loan shark, Abe Reles. Newly married to the vivacious chorus girl Eadie, Joey struggles to clear his debts and in doing so, unknowingly sets the wheels of treachery in motion. Reles, a cold-blooded hitman for the notorious Brownsville Group, later dubbed by the press as Murder Incorporated, offers to clear Joey's debts in exchange for an introduction to Joey's friend, the Catskills-based comic Walter Sage. Despite sensing Reles' ominous intentions, Joey reluctantly agrees, only to witness the brutal murder of his friend. In the heart of this crime syndicate, Reles operates under the chilling command of the ruthless crime boss Louis "Lepke" Buchalter, executing a string of calculated murders as part of their sinister agenda. Joey and Eadie, having seen too much, find themselves at the mercy of Reles and his band of criminals, their lives hanging in the balance. The dramatic turn of events unfolds as Thomas E. Dewey, a determined prosecutor, is appointed to lead a special commission against the syndicate. As the net tightens around Lepke, he vanishes into the shadows, escalating his murderous campaign against anyone who dares to testify. The narrative intensifies further with the introduction of the tenacious Assistant DA for Brooklyn, Burt Turkus, and seasoned Brooklyn Police Sgt. William Tobin, who join forces to unravel the string of unsolved murders. Caught in the crossfire, Joey and Eadie must navigate the treacherous waters of cooperation and betrayal to save themselves. "Murder, Inc." is a gripping tale based on the real-life chronicles of lawman Burton Turkus, painting a harrowing portrait of the rise and fall of one of the most feared crime syndicates in history.
