Plot

In the heart of inter-war London, the affluent and recently widowed Mrs. Laura Henderson (Dame Judi Dench), finds herself in a state of ennui. Seeking a spark to ignite her dormant life, she whimsically acquires the decrepit Windmill theatre in the bustling West End. Despite their contrasting personalities and constant bickering, she convinces the charismatic impresario, Vivian Van Damm (Bob Hoskins), to manage the theatre, embarking on an audacious venture. Their pioneering idea of a non-stop revue takes the audience by storm, but soon other theatres start to imitate their successful formula, threatening the Windmill with impending disaster. In a daring move to save their theatre, Mrs. Henderson proposes an avant-garde addition to the show – nudity. Yet, this risqué proposal is likely to ruffle the feathers of the prudish Lord Chamberlain, Lord Rowland Baring, 2nd Earl of Cromer (Christopher Guest), who is responsible for licensing live shows in Britain. Fortuitously, Mrs. Henderson's social connections come in handy, as she happens to be friends with him. As a result, the Windmill theatre transforms into an iconic performance hall, gaining historical significance for its daring all-nude revues. "Mrs. Henderson Presents" is a captivating tale of resilience, audacity, and the power of unlikely alliances, set against the evocative backdrop of a London caught between two world wars.
