In the vibrant world of Stu Miley, a successful cartoonist, life is an animated adventure. His cartoon strip, Monkeybone, starring a mischievous, wisecracking monkey engaging in racy exploits, has become a sensation. Stu's life is on a joyous upswing as he prepares to propose to his stunning girlfriend Julie, and his comic strip is on the brink of blossoming into a national television show. However, fate has a cruel sense of humor, and in a bizarre twist, Stu is struck by a freak accident that sends him into a coma. His body remains in the realm of the living, where Julie keeps a devoted vigil.
