Plot

The year is 2001, in the industrial port city of Vigo, Spain, where the echo of once-thriving shipyards falls silent. Six middle-aged friends, men who once anchored their dreams in the shipyard, now find themselves adrift in the sea of unemployment. Their routine refuge is La Naval, a bar run by Rico, a former shipyard employee. This watering hole serves as their shared stage, where they grapple with their futures in unconventional, sometimes haphazard, ways. Santa, the group’s rebel ringleader, battles a lawsuit for a broken shipyard light, fueling his dreams of escape to Australia. José, burdened by an inferiority complex, struggles with his wife Ana's role as the family breadwinner, while navigating the choppy waters of his own moodiness. Ana, resilient yet weary, supports their home with her temporary job at a tuna can factory. Lino, armed with hope and endless job applications, fights an uphill battle against the job market. Serguei, a product of Soviet training for a life in space, seems resigned to his earthbound existence. Amidst this collective struggle, the deeply melancholic Amador yearns for his estranged wife, finding solace at the bottom of a bottle. Forever intertwined by their shared past, these men face each idle, jobless day as if it were a perpetual Sunday, a Monday forever bathed in the sun of uncertainty. Their stories unfold in the shadow of a shuttered shipyard, a testament to a bygone era, and a symbol of their common plight. The film, "Mondays in the Sun," explores the strength of friendship, the pain of lost livelihood, and the resilience of the human spirit amidst life's uncertainties.
