Plot

Mekko, a man weathered by time and regret, steps out into freedom after a 19-year sentence, his punishment for a deadly brawl with his cousin. Mekko, once revered as a seer by the elderly in his tribe, now grapples with the shadows of his past and the hauntings of his future. He's plagued by visions of his demise and a looming battle with an evil spirit witch, shape-shifting into warriors or animal spirits, beckoning him towards a confrontation he dreads yet cannot evade. With no welcoming home or familial ties, Mekko embarks on a journey to Tulsa. His hopes of reconnecting with a cousin are dashed when he is met with rejection. Homeless and adrift, Mekko finds solace and shelter in the arms of the homeless native community. Amidst fleeting moments of joy, a sinister undercurrent runs through this community, personified in a man named Bill. Bill, a self-proclaimed warrior, feeds off the vulnerable while demanding reverence. Mekko, with his seer's insight, discerns the true nature of Bill's heart—it is a dark abode for a witch that has claimed many lives. Convinced that Bill is indeed a witch, Mekko finds himself drawn into an inevitable showdown. Even as he tries to avoid it, he knows the witch is relentlessly pursuing him. In this tug of war between good and evil, Mekko finds himself turning to the ancient wisdom of his grandmother. He embarks on a spiritual quest to expel this menace from his community, a journey that simultaneously becomes a search for redemption and self-forgiveness. Mekko's story is a poignant exploration of hope, home, and the courage to confront one's past while battling the demons of the present.
