Plot

In a world where the lines of family, love, and identity blur, widowed sci-fi writer David grapples with the profound loss of his wife, his solitude echoing in the emptiness of his existence. Enter Dennis, a peculiar six-year-old foster child who, with his unwavering belief of being an extraterrestrial from Mars, exists in a cardboard box universe, shunning sunlight and clutching a belt of flashlight batteries to keep him rooted to the Earth. With a heart open to peculiarities, David brings Dennis into his home on a trial basis, initiating an eccentric journey of fatherhood. As they navigate this newfound dynamic, David's sister and his late wife's best friend provide a comforting backdrop of support. Yet, it's essentially a two-man voyage, one where misunderstandings and misadventures create a fabric of shared experiences. As Dennis grapples with societal norms, pilfers possessions, and gets expelled, David steers him towards fitting in, all while fighting for their right to be a family in the eyes of the court. In this stirring narrative of belonging, the question remains: Will David's love be enough to secure Dennis's place as his son? Will Dennis choose to stay on Earth or return to his Martian roots? Through this story, we explore the transformative power of parenthood and the profound bonds that can form between the most unlikely of pairs.
