Plot

In the tumultuous backdrop of 1968 Germany, a tale of sisterhood, rebellion, and the pursuit of social justice unfolds in "Marianne and Juliane". Daughters of a priest, Marianne and Juliane, share a common ideal - the crusade for women's rights and the decriminalization of abortion. Yet, they tread vastly different paths. Juliane wields her pen as a committed reporter, illuminating societal issues with her incisive journalism. Marianne, on the other hand, plunges into the radical realm, joining a terroristic organization and employing extreme means to achieve their shared goals. Their worlds collide when Marianne is apprehended and thrown into solitary confinement. Juliane finds herself as the sole tether to the outside world for her isolated sister. Torn between her boyfriend Wolfgang's disapproval and her familial ties, Juliane decides to stand by her sister. Despite her reservations about Marianne's methods, she continues to assist her, all the while confronting the harsh realities of her sister's treatment. "Marianne and Juliane" is an evocative exploration of two sisters embroiled in a tumultuous time, bound by blood, divided by ideologies, and united by their relentless pursuit of change. This compelling narrative is sure to leave viewers contemplating the complexities of societal norms, the price of revolution, and the unshakeable bond of sisterhood.
