Plot

In the harsh aftermath of the Great War, an American Major, William Foster (Gene Hackman), burdened by the specter of wartime traumas, finds himself leading an assignment of an unusual nature. He and his unit of the French Foreign Legion are dispatched to the sweeping expanses of the Moroccan desert, their mission: to safeguard an archaeological expedition delving into the sands of time. Among Foster's rank and file is the roguish Marco Segrain (Terence Hill), a charismatic thief who swapped prison bars for a soldier's uniform. Together, they navigate the drudgery and hardship of life in the Legion, their days echoing with the relentless desert wind and the steady rhythm of excavating tools. Their temporary haven is a small village, believed to host a burial site sacred to the local Arab tribes. This perceived desecration fuels the furor of Arab leader El Krim (Sir Ian Holm), who seizes the opportunity to unite his people in a fervent Jihad. The simmering tension erupts into a confrontation as El Krim directs his wrath towards the Legion's modest garrison stationed at the dig. What ensues is an epic battle, a struggle for survival against overwhelming odds that echoes the fierce spirit of classic cinematic clashes like Zulu (1964). Each costume, firearm, and prop in this gripping tale is meticulously crafted, reflecting a deep reverence for authenticity and detail. This is more than a cinematic journey; it's a plunge into a whirlwind of history, struggle, and the resilience of the human spirit.
