Plot

Set against the wild backdrop of the Kentucky frontier in 1798, 'Many Rivers to Cross' follows the adventurous story of Bushrod Gentry, a handsome, roguish trapper and fur trader. Known for evading two types of predators - the sporadic packs of Shawnee Indians who venture beyond their reserves and the lovestruck daughters of the farmers he trades with - Bushrod lives a life of nomadic solitude. His lone wolf existence is filled with hurried escapes and heartfelt rejections of marriage proposals, always leaving a trail of teary-eyed maidens in his wake. Bushrod's world is turned upside down when he meets the fiery Mary Stuart Cherne, the only girl among five siblings in the Cherne family who takes him in to nurse his injured arm. Mary Stuart, a master frontierswoman and sharpshooter, is unlike any woman he's met before. Her strong will and refusal to be dismissed easily stirs a whirlwind of emotions and conflicts in Bushrod's once simple life. Despite the constant presence of burly Luke Radford, who has always seen Mary Stuart as his future wife, she sets her sights on Bushrod, seeing him as perfect husband material. Her relentless pursuit creates a tumultuous blend of lies, evasive actions, and uproarious hilarity. Bushrod finds himself caught in a storm of sibling fistfights, shooting contests, and even a shotgun wedding. As Mary Stuart's determination to wed him increases, so does Bushrod's desperation to maintain his freedom. But the more he resists, the more entangled he becomes in a web of broken promises and unexpected feelings. This comedic and heartwarming tale of love in the wilderness will make you wonder whether Bushrod can escape the binds of matrimony or if the relentless Mary Stuart will finally tame the lone wolf. Their shared experiences, both good and bad, might just alter their individual perspectives on love and commitment.
