In the heart of 19th century Spain, Don José, a dashing young sergeant, finds himself irresistibly drawn to Conchita, a captivating gypsy girl employed within the military fort. Her fiery charm ignites a feud with another woman, culminating in a knife-wielding confrontation that lands her in custody. Entrusted to escort her to the town’s police station, Don José becomes a pawn in Conchita's cunning game of escape, resulting in his demotion and additional guard duties. Under the cloak of darkness, Conchita reappears, her seductive apology cleverly masking her true motive - to distract Don José from a covert operation by a band of smugglers infiltrating the fort. Enraged and ensnared in her web of deceit, Don José confronts Conchita, discovering her in the arms of another lover—an officer. Blinded by jealousy, he strikes the officer, a blow that proves fatal. Now a deserter, Don José follows Conchita into the world of gypsies and smugglers, determined to escape to America. Their refuge is disrupted by the arrival of Miguel Garcia, a recently freed prisoner, who Don José is horrified to learn is Conchita's husband. Despite the shocking revelation, Don José remains oblivious to Conchita's manipulative nature and her secret web of lovers. As Conchita secures employment in the household of a wealthy Englishman, she uncovers a golden opportunity – a stagecoach laden with gold and money. Together with her husband Miguel and a hesitant Don José, they devise a daring plan to ambush the stagecoach. Don José’s only condition - no bloodshed, for the price of murder is a death sentence. An agreement is reached, yet Miguel remains armed, ready for any unforeseen complications. As they successfully seize the gold, their triumphant moment quickly unravels, setting them on a path they hadn't anticipated.
