In the heart of 1950s Czechoslovakia, amidst the stifling grip of Communism, we meet Karel Cernik, a resilient circus manager with a daring plan for freedom. His audacious scheme involves using the vibrancy and chaos of his own circus as a smokescreen to cross the heavily guarded border. After three tension-filled years of meticulous planning, his idea is on the brink of execution, when an unexpected invitation from the Secret Police sends chills down his spine. His wife's infidelity stings, his daughter's budding romance with the new stable boy bewilders him, and the steady disintegration of his beloved circus threatens to crush his spirit.
