In the quaint township of Gilford, the festive season stirs bittersweet memories for Lindsey Monroe, a township planner. The winter air is heavy with the echoes of the past, three years since her husband Doug's untimely demise during the Christmas season. An integral part of their family traditions, Doug's absence has left a void that Lindsey struggles to fill, resulting in a reluctant approach to Christmas.
However, this year holds a whisper of change, as Lindsey finally garnishes their home with Christmas decorations, reigniting a spark of holiday spirit in her preteen daughter, Hannah. The young girl's excitement is tinged with a fervent wish for a Christmas puppy, a request Lindsey is hesitant to fulfill, her reasons remaining a mystery.
Simultaneously, Lindsey is tasked with overseeing Mayor Fred Barnes' ambitious project - the reconstruction of a long-lost gazebo in the town square, meant to be unveiled during the historic town lighting ceremony on Christmas Eve. The mayor's choice of craftsman is none other than Scott Terrell, a newcomer to Gilford, who is unyieldingly intent on replicating the gazebo's original design. The problem? No records of the old gazebo exist. While Lindsey is more concerned with the project's deadline, Scott is devoted to the integrity of the structure, creating an intriguing tension between them.
Things take an unexpected turn when Hannah receives a Christmas stocking from an enigmatic elderly woman at a church bazaar. Once hung by their fireplace, the stocking seems to mysteriously influence the lives of Lindsey, Hannah, and Lindsey's spirited mother, Donna Chastain, gradually infusing their lives with the joy of Christmas. Hannah and Donna begin to suspect the stocking holds magical powers, bringing the Christmas spirit back into their lives in a most extraordinary way.
