Plot

In the heart of lower Manhattan, Love Is Strange unfolds the tale of Ben (John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina), a couple who, after almost four decades of unity, finally indulge in the bliss of marriage. However, the serenity of their idyllic wedding is short-lived as George is abruptly dismissed from his teaching position, hurling them into a maelstrom of uncertainty. Suddenly victims of the merciless New York City real estate market, they are forced to relinquish their cherished apartment. The couple, tethered by love yet separated by circumstance, must navigate the tumultuous waters of temporary living arrangements until they can secure an affordable sanctuary to call their own. George finds solace in the company of two police officers (Cheyenne Jackson and Manny Perez) who reside downstairs, while Ben seeks refuge in the bustling Brooklyn household of his nephew (Darren Burrows), his wife (Marisa Tomei), and their mercurial teenage son (Charlie Tahan). Sharing a bunk bed with the temperamental youth, Ben finds himself in the crossfire of intergenerational tension and erratic family dynamics. As they grapple with the pangs of separation, the weight of their predicament bears heavily on all involved. Love Is Strange is a poignant exploration of love's endurance amidst life's unforeseen upheavals, painting a vivid portrait of a couple striving to reunite in the city that never sleeps.
