Plot
In the throes of heartbreak and disillusionment with her stagnant career, writer Annie Butler (Lancaster) finds solace in her own creativity. Instead of drafting dull user manuals, she breathes life into a romantic fiction novel called My George, painting her ideal romance with an imaginary lover named George. The world of publishing is thrown into a frenzy when power-agent Della Hendershot (Fox) discovers the book, eager to skyrocket Annie to literary stardom at an influential bookseller's expo. There's only one hitch - George doesn't exist.
Faced with Annie's confession, a desperate Della hires an actor to play the part of George, much to the chagrin of Annie and her family, sister Kate (Stoll) and mother Opal (Strassman). Uncomfortable with the charade, Annie's spirits lift when she crosses paths with George Munroe (Pardue), a charming and ambitious realtor handling Opal's property sale. Annie finds herself in a race against time, trying to kindle a romance with George to mirror the story in her bestseller before the expo.
However, reality clashes with fantasy as her attempts to replicate the novel's perfect moments falter. Amidst this whirlwind, Annie reconnects with her high school friend Henry (Quinn), now a nursery owner hired to upgrade Opal's garden for the sale. It's evident to everyone, especially his colleague Frank (Nuñez), that Henry's adolescent feelings for Annie have reignited. As the two spend more time together, Annie starts to question her pursuit of an idealized love, unbeknownst to her that her true happily-ever-after has been under her nose all along.
