Plot

In the heart of London, Lara, a Palestinian émigré, has built a comfortable life with her husband, Michael, and their seven-year-old son, James. Their existence, though lacking in passion, is punctuated by the city's finer districts and the occasional bolstering effect of vodka. This serene life is disrupted when Inam, a ghost from Lara's past in Ramallah, unexpectedly shows up at her doorstep. The tension between the two women is palpable from the moment Inam breezes into the apartment, probing about Michael and lavishing attention on young James. Lara quickly senses the threat posed by Inam's invasive presence to the life she has painstakingly constructed in her adopted homeland. The two women are bound by a shared secret, a complex web of adolescent experiences and sexual awakenings back in the West Bank. One fateful evening in 1994, during the height of the Intifada, they defied the curfew to venture into the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem for a film. There, they crossed paths with two young Israeli soldiers who, mistaking them for Italian tourists, invited them for drinks after the screening. What started as an innocent adventure spiraled into an incident that would forever mark their lives. The memory of that night is as elusive as it is haunting, distorted by individual perceptions and the tricks the mind plays when confronted with our deepest fears. As Lara and Inam grapple with their shared history, the truth of their past threatens to unravel the delicate fabric of Lara's present.
