Plot

In the heart of Buenos Aires, Julia Zárate, an unbound college student, wakes up in her apartment to a macabre tableau of blood-soaked chaos. Her lover Nahuel lies fatally stabbed, while his paramour Ramiro, drenched in blood, clings to life. Amidst this horror, Julia carries a life within her, two weeks pregnant with Nahuel's child. Accused of a crime she cannot recall, Julia finds herself thrust into the grim confines of a special prison wing for mothers and expecting women. As she navigates this world of bars and baby cribs, Julia forms an unlikely bond with Marta, a fellow inmate with two children. Marta becomes Julia's guide, illuminating the intersection of motherhood and incarceration in an environment that blurs the lines between guilt, solitude, and survival. When Julia gives birth to her son, Tomás, within these prison walls, her life takes another tumultuous turn. Her own mother attempts a desperate grab for her grandson, sparking a rebellion that shakes the women's wing. And when Ramiro, who once shared her affections, points a damning finger at Julia, accusing her of Nahuel's murder, her hopes of raising Tomás beyond the prison bars are endangered. Leonera is a haunting exploration of maternity and justice in the unlikeliest of places. It delves deep into the heart of confinement, questioning the nature of guilt and solitude. But at its core, it tells the poignant story of Julia and Tomás, a mother and son grappling with their bond born and nurtured in the shadow of an Argentinean prison.
