Plot

Stepping into a dance of time, Life Is a Bed of Roses weaves together three compelling narratives. As the shadow of the First World War looms, Count Forbek embarks on an intriguing endeavor - to construct a magnificent castle tucked away in the heart of the Ardennes forest. Post-war, the castle transforms into a breeding ground for his utopian society, manipulating the minds of his comrades, including his former beloved Livia and her spouse. Fast-forward to the present, the castle now serves as an unconventional school and, during the summer break, as a dynamic venue for an enlightening conference. Amidst the scholarly discourse, a wager ensues between the vivacious American, Nora Winkle, and the spirited Claudine. The bet? The seemingly steadfast public school teacher, Elisabeth Rousseau, will succumb to the charms of Robert Dufresne, despite the palpable interest of the main speaker, Walter Guarini. Parallel to these adult intrigues, the children residing in the castle during the holidays fabricate their own enchanting medieval tale, embarking on a quest to liberate prisoners from the castle's dungeons. Life Is a Bed of Roses is an intricate tapestry of interlacing tales, where past and present converge, and reality and imagination blur boundaries.
