In the shadowed throes of 1983 Poland, a stifled nation buckles under the relentless weight of martial law. Despite its official suspension, the communist regime's iron fist still clenches tightly around the throats of the Solidarity opposition, suffocating the country's cries for freedom. Here, in this era of struggle and defiance, a tragic event ignites a spark of rebellion. Grzegorz Przemyk, the offspring of renowned opposition poet Barbara Sadowska, becomes the unwitting symbol of the regime's brutality. On a fateful day in May, he is seized by the state's police patrol and subjected to a brutal beating that leaves him clinging to life. Two agonizing days later, Grzegorz's life extinguishes, and his legacy is thrust upon an unlikely hero, Jurek Popiel, his friend and the sole witness to the vicious assault. Fueled by the flames of injustice, Jurek swears to testify against the police, attempting to pierce the corrupt veil of the state apparatus. Initially, the Ministry of the Interior dismisses the case, attempting to bury it beneath layers of lies and bureaucracy. However, when a tidal wave of 20,000 mourners march through the heart of Warsaw behind Grzegorz's coffin, the authorities are forced to react. They initiate a ruthless campaign to discredit both the deceased's mother and the dauntless witness, transforming Jurek overnight into the state's most wanted enemy.
