Plot

In the sun-soaked metropolis of Sydney, a tangled web of stories emerges from the lives of emotionally fractured individuals. At the center is Police detective Leon Zat and his wife Sonja. Despite their mutual affection, an unspoken disquiet looms over their marriage, casting a shadow on their interactions with their two teenage sons. Leon's emotional turmoil finds an outlet in a clandestine affair with Jane O'May, a woman from his salsa dance class who is grappling with her own loneliness after ending her marriage. Meanwhile, Sonja seeks solace in therapy with Dr. Valerie Somers, a secret she guards from Leon. Dr. Somers is wrestling with her own demons after the murder of her daughter eighteen months ago. Her marriage to law professor John Knox bears the scars of this tragedy, marked by an emotional and physical chasm that separates them. The grief-stricken therapist's roster of clients includes Patrick Phelan, a gay man embroiled in an affair with a man in a heterosexual marriage, whose relationship with Dr. Somers is strained by her personal troubles. The narratives of these complex lives intersect further with Jane's former husband Pete and their friends and neighbors, Nik and Paula D'Amato. The D'Amatos navigate their own challenges, balancing strained finances with maintaining their outwardly happy facade. Nik, an unemployed father of three, seeks escape from his domestic duties, while Paula works double shifts to keep their life afloat. As these lives intertwine, secrets are buried and truths are distorted. A mysterious disappearance throws this collective into upheaval, with the ensuing investigation dredging up more than just the missing person. A discarded woman's shoe in the lantana, a late-night accident, and a clandestine affair are threads in this intricate tapestry of five couples' lives. As the mystery unravels, it lays bare the raw emotions, hidden betrayals, and unspoken pain that connect these individuals, making them all suspects, victims, and witnesses in a saga of trust, deceit, and resilience.
