Dr. Knock, an erstwhile rogue turned reputable physician, sets foot in the quaint hamlet of Saint-Maurice with a cunning scheme to amass wealth. Using a peculiar method of his own invention, he instills the hitherto healthy villagers with a deep-seated paranoia about their well-being. Through his seductive charm and persuasive rhetoric, he convinces them of phantom symptoms, transforming his medical practice into a lucrative operation. As he weaves his web of deception, Knock wins over the trust of the village, teetering on the brink of his grand success. However, just as victory seems imminent, the specter of his shady past returns.
