Plot

When the cantankerous patriarch Bud Slocumb breathes his last over breakfast, it sets the stage for a family reunion that's as chaotic as it is poignant. The Slocumb clan, each member carrying their own unique baggage, converge on the quaint town of Lula for the wake and funeral. At the heart of the storm is Raynelle, the long-suffering widow, who finds herself at odds with her two sons. Junior, jobless and faithless to his wife, Charisse, and Ray Bud, battling the twin demons of alcoholism and infertility beside his devoted wife, Lucille. Adding to the vibrant mix is their perpetually munching younger daughter, Delightful, the fervently religious Aunt Marguerite and her rebellious son, Royce. Juanita, the wife of their wealthier cousin, provides a splash of opulence to the otherwise gritty family dynamic. As they struggle to utter a kind word about the departed Bud, simmering tensions rise to the surface. The funeral becomes a crucible where grief mingles with resentment, sparking a fire that threatens to consume the already dysfunctional family. The film Kingdom Come paints a vivid picture of a family on the brink, wrestling with their relationships with the living even as they bid farewell to the dead. This is a tale where comedy and tragedy walk hand in hand, revealing the harsh yet heartwarming reality of family life in all its flawed glory.
