What does the heart of a man truly desire? In the quaint outskirts of Barcelona, we find Nestor, a recent widower who fills his days running a beloved bakery, braving daily swims in the sea and managing a healthy bank account, all while nursing a failing heart. Tied to his side is his unfaithful son-in-law and a daughter who hardly understands him. When Nestor's loyal maid suggests her vibrant, 20-something daughter, Maribel, to help in the bakery, Nestor finds himself entranced by her youth and charm, a passion ignited by late-night cable film marathons. Maribel, however, is a complex creature. She's grown cynical of men but harbors a thrill for the illicit, courtesy of her boyfriend, Manolo, a notorious debt collector in Barcelona's underbelly. As Nestor dreams of wedding bells with Maribel, she sees a different picture: a fresh widowhood with a generous inheritance. But will life's unpredictable nature play by their rules?
