Kalyanaraman (1979)

In the heartland of lush green plantations, a wealthy estate owner, Chinnadurai (Major Sundararajan), is bound by the worries of advancing age. Countless tobacco and tea leaves bloom under his reign, but his only heir, the naive and immature Kalyana (Kamal Hassan), is a puppet in the hands of the guileful cook, Samipillai (V.K. Ramaswamy). Love has also ensnared Kalyana in the form of the enchanting Shenbagam (Sridevi). Under the shadow of this rustic tranquility, a malicious plot takes root. A coalition of greed forms between Ramiah (Thengai Srinivasan), the estate manager with a silver tongue, Samipillai, Shenbagam's father Perumal (Senthamarai), and Ligappa, a thug hired for his deadly skills. Their sinister plan: to murder Chinnadurai and snatch the estate from the unsuspecting Kalyana. Tragedy strikes when Ligappa fatally injures Chinnadurai, who, with his last breaths, reveals a deeply buried family secret to Kalyana: a lost twin brother, Raman (Kamal Hassan), and an abandoned first wife, Rajulakshmi (Puspalatha). Fooled by Samipillai, Kalyana believes that his long-lost relatives are returning home, but instead, a pair of fraudsters, Rangamani (Manorama) and Kittu, are hired to play the part of his mother and brother. The plot thickens when Kalyana overhears the devious gang's gloating over their deception. In a desperate bid to seek justice, Kalyana flees, only to be pursued and thrown off a cliff, a sight that drives Shenbagam to the brink of madness. In a twist of the ethereal, Kalyana's spirit journeys to Madras, revealing the entire saga to his twin brother, Raman, leaving him with a daunting task: to return home, avenge his brother's death, and rescue Shenbagam from her tormentors...
