In the heart of 1932, amidst the harsh clutches of the Depression, the Irish countryside welcomes a familiar face, Jimmy Gralton, who returns after a decade of enforced exile in the distant USA. His return sparks joy in the hearts of his widowed mother Alice, his old friends, and the youthful spirits craving the rhythm of dancing and the melody of singing. However, this wave of happiness doesn't wash over everyone, especially not Father Sheridan, the village's stern priest, the high-and-mighty squire, or Dennis O'Keefe, the iron-fisted chief of the fascists. Upon witnessing the crushing hold of poverty and oppression on his people, the activist in Jimmy is reignited.
